our synthetic ape C-il (46-58) gave a negative response when tested with purified native apolipoprotein C-fl. Double iminunodiffusion (Ouchterlony technique) of antibodies against our synthetic ape E (141-155) gave a positive immunoprecipitation line with Purified apolipoprotein E, which showed a partial identity with those obtained with polyclonal antibodies raised against the native protein. We assessedthe specificity of the two antibodies to synthetic peptides by using a noncompetitive-binding enzymelinked immunosorbent assay (Ei..ISA) (4). Addition of substrate to the wells to which peptides or lipeproteins had not been added gave a background absorbance from 0.08 to 0.10. When peptides or lipoproteins had been previously coated, the assay titers (expressed as the maximal dilution giving an absorbance twice as high as the negative control) tabulated below were observed: Coating Antiapo AntiapoE with: C-Il (46-58) (141-1 51) ApoC-il 64000 (46-58) ApoE 16000 (141-155) VLDL 1600
